Research Notes on Nystatin
Nystatin is a nontoxic antifungal polyene drug used to treat fungal infections and aids in the prevention of mold. The active agent in Nystatin was isolated from Strepomyces noursei, found in soil and decaying vegetation. Nystatin binds to ergosterol, the component for fungal cell membranes and causes Potassium leakage which causes the death of fungus.
