Nuts and Corn Cleared in Diverticulitis Risk

Research Notes on Nuts and Corn Cleared in Diverticulitis Risk

People who are at risk for developing diverticulitis have been told for years to avoid consuming nuts, corn and popcorn. A new study shows that these rough foods are no longer linked to the digestive disease. 47,000 men between the ages of 40 and 75 were studied. After the 18 year follow up, 801 diverticulitis cases were reported along with 383 cases of diverticular bleeding. The men who ate corn, nuts and popcorn at least twice a week were not more likely to develop diverticulitis than those who only ate them once a month or less.
