Nuclear Perfusion Imaging

Try also: Angiography; Brain; and Brain Spect

Research Notes on Nuclear Perfusion Imaging

Nuclear perfusion imaging is done by injecting a radioactive dye, or isotope, into your bloodstream while you are at rest. Pictures will be taken of your heart at that time. Then you undergo the stress test. After the stress test, a second injection of the dye is administered, and a second set of pictures will be taken of your heart.1 Nuclear perfusion imaging will reveal how well blood is flowing through all areas of your heart.2

Fast Facts:

  • When the same test is performed on the brain it is called sometimes called a brain spect, when done on the heart test is called myocardial perfusion imaging.3
  • Thallium and cardiolite are often the isotopes used for injection.2
  • Tell your doctor if you are a diabetic as your medications may need to be adjusted.1
