Normal Cholesterol Levels

Research Notes on Normal Cholesterol Levels

High cholesterol levels are associated with the development of heart diseases. The term 'desirable' is preferred over 'normal' when describing the optimum cholesterol level necessary to reduce or eliminate the risk of diseases and complications. Desirable cholesterol levels also depend on other factors such as a person’s race, family history, physical activity, and pre-existing conditions. For example, 140-220 mg/dL are normal cholesterol values for adults in Western countries, but among Asians, figures are usually 20% lower.
