Research Notes on Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer
About 85% to 90% of all lung cancers are of the non-small cell type. There are three types of non-small cell lung cancers (NSCLC), and they differ in size, shape and chemical make-up. Squamous cell carcinomas are linked to smoking and are typically found near a bronchus. Adenocarcinoma is usually found in the outer part of the lung. Large-cell (undifferentiated) carcinoma may start anywhere in the lung and grows and spreads quickly.1
Fast Facts:
- Lung cancer (both small cell and non-small cell) is the leading cause of cancer death for both men and women.2
- Common causes of non-small cell lung cancers are tobacco smoke, radon exposure, asbestos exposure, and radiation treatments to the lungs.2
- Treatment for NSCLC depends on the stage of the cancer.2
