Nitrous Oxide for Dental Work

Research Notes on Nitrous Oxide for Dental Work

Nitrous oxide -- also called laughing gas -- is a sedative gas administered through a mask placed over the patient’s nose before undergoing a painful dental procedure. This allows the dentist to work on the patient’s mouth uninterrupted. It is inhaled through the nose and exhaled through the mouth, eliminating it from the body almost immediately.
