Research Notes on Nitrofurantoin

Nitrofurantoin is an antibiotic that is used to treat urinary tract infections and to kill bacteria such as E coli and staphylococcus.1 In order to prevent stomach bleeding, nitrofurantoin must be taken with food.1 Side effects include upset stomach, vomiting and loss of appetite.2

  • Avoid use during last month of pregnancy.3
