Research Notes on Nimodipine
Nimodipine is a calcium channel blocker that was originally developed as a treatment for hypertension.1 It is currently used to treat symptoms from a ruptured blood vessel in the brain and increases blood flow to injured brain tissue. Nimodipine is sometimes used to treat migraine headaches.2
Fast Facts:
- Common side effects include headache, heartburn, constipation and a change in heart rhythm.3
- Should be taken on an empty stomach, one hour before or two hours after a meal. Avoid grapefruit and grapefruit juice while taking nimodipine.4
- Benefits should be weighed against risks when used by pregnant women.
