Nephropathy is a term which refers to damage to or disease of the kidney. An older term for this is nephrosis.1 Nephrosis is defined as a non-inflammatory, non-neoplastic disease of the kidney. It can be caused by kidney disease, or it may be a complication of another disorder, particularly diabetes.2
