Research Notes on Necrotizing Granuloma
A granuloma is a nodule consisting mainly of epithelioid macrophages and other inflammatory and immune cells as well as extracellular matrix. Granulomas form when the immune system attempts to fend off and isolate an antigen. The antigen can be an infectious pathogen or a foreign body but in many cases granulomas form without apparent cause in autoimmune disorders. - Granulomas are seen in a variety of diseases such as Crohn's disease and tuberculosis.2
