Research Notes on Neck Pain Causes
Neck pain can be caused by many different conditions.1 One of the most common causes of neck pain is simply poor posture.2 However there are many other possibilities such as arthritis, fibromyalgia, pinched nerves, muscle strain, and neck injuries.3

- Headaches can originate in the neck due to poor posture.4
- Some common symptoms of neck pain include aching, stiff neck, numbness, and tingling sensations in the arm or hands.2
- Neck pain can often be relieved with over-the-counter drugs such as aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen, or acetaminophen. 5
- Other forms of treatment might include physical therapy, hot packs, cold applications, topical anesthetic creams, muscle relaxers, and/or surgery.5
