Research Notes on Natural Insomnia Treatments
Natural insomnia treatments include such simple things as turning the clock away from you so you are not able to see it, making sure your bedroom is comfortable, not going to bed if you cannot sleep, or getting out of bed if you have not fallen asleep within 20 minutes. Also, avoid daytime napping, smoking, and alcohol.1 Herbs such as passionflower, valerian, chamomile, St. John's wort, and skullcap may be effective in treating insomnia naturally.2
Fast Facts:
- Insomnia is the inability to fall asleep or stay asleep.3
- Cognitive-behavioral therapy may also help to treat insomnia.3
- A sleep diary may be able to help you become aware of your sleep patterns and discover the cause of your insomnia.3
