Research Notes on National Kidney Month
The National Kidney Foundation has dedicated the month of March as Kidney Month. The primary goal is to educate the public on how the kidney functions and about kidney disease.1 March 12th has been designated as World Kidney Day, promoting early detection and increasing awareness of high blood pressure as one of the symptoms of kidney disease.2
Fast Facts:
- There are approximately 1.5 million individuals who have received dialysis or had a kidney transplant around the world.2
- Chronic kidney disease affects one in nine Americans.1
- Kidney disease screening is suggested for individuals 18 or older with diabetes, high blood pressure, or family history of kidney disease.3
