The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) conducts research on many of the most serious health issues that affect the public health.1 Established in 1950 as the National Institute of Arthritis and Metabolic Diseases, the NIDDK supports research on diseases such as diabetes, urology and renal disease, and hematology.2 The NIDDK operates three clearinghouses including the National Diabetes Information Clearinghouse.2
