Research Notes on Napping
A nap is a short sleep that terminates before the occurrence of deep sleep. It is intended to revitalize the person from drowsiness, allowing them to function better.
Fast Facts
- The expression power-nap was coined by Cornell University social psychologist James Maas.
- Studies show that 20 minutes of sleep in the afternoon provides more rest than 20 minutes more sleep in the morning
- In some cases napping can boost performance back to morning levels.
