Research Notes on Nail Psoriasis
Nail psoriasis occurs in approximately half of all people with psoriasis, and about eighty percent of those with psoriatic arthritis. Since psoriasis affects the nail as it is being formed, it can be difficult to treat. Topical medications are usually ineffective. This is because the part of the nail that is affected, the matrix, is difficult to penetrate.1
Fast Facts:
- Steroid injections have been used with varying results.1
- Men and women are equally likely to have nail psoriasis.2
- Nail psoriasis is not contagious.2
