The NYU Hospital for Joint Diseases started in 1905, as "Jewish Hospital for Deformities and Joint Diseases," in a brownstone, with only seven beds.1 For more than 100 years the hospital has continuously served the New York area. In 1986 the hospital joined with the NYU School of Medicine, the NYU Langone Medical Center in 1994, eventually fusing the orthopaedic departments in 1997.1 The hospital is rated 8th in the nation for both orthopaedics and rehabilitation, by U. S. News and World Reports, Best Hospitals.2
