Research Notes on Myelopathy in Cats
Myelopathy is a disease that generally affects dogs, but can also affect cats. It is a degenerative neurologic disease affecting spinal cord and is similar to multiple sclerosis in humans.1
Fast Facts:
- Diagnostic tests are performed mainly to rule out other causes of slowly progressive weakness and lack of coordination.2
- First described as a specific neurologic disease in 1973.3
- Symptoms are a progressive weakness and ataxia of the hindquarters, which may come and go, or just get steadily worse.4
