Myalgia is a symptom of many diseases, injuries, overuse of muscles or can be the side effect of some medications. It simply means muscle pain.1 Myalgia can be temporary or chronic.2

Fast Facts:

  • Consult your doctor if mylagia persists beyond three days or is accompanied by poor circulation, signs of infection or you believe it is caused by a medication.3
  • Call 911 if mylagia is accompanied by shortness of breath, stiff neck or you can not move part of your body.3
  • Alternating hot and cold packs and gentle massage is the usual treatment for mylagia caused by overuse of a muscle.4
