Muscle Weakness

Research Notes on Muscle Weakness

Weakness may be generalized or limited to one or more muscles. General weakness may be caused by using muscles more than normal or brought on by illness such as the flu. True measurable (subjective) muscle weakness can be caused by many things such as metabolic, neurological, or muscular disorders.1

Fast Facts:

  • Consult your doctor if you experience muscle weakness that slowly progresses.2
  • Sudden onset of severe muscle weakness can indicate a serious problem such as stroke.2
  • Since muscle weakness is a symptom, not a disease, treatment depends on the underlying cause.2
