Research Notes on Muscle Strain
A muscle strain is over stretching or tearing of a muscle or tendon. This may happen in many ways such as during exercise, participating in sports, stepping wrong or heavy lifting. Symptoms may include, pain, swelling, muscle spasm, limited muscle movement and bruising.1

- Recovery time depends on location and severity of the strain.1
- The most common strains are in the hamstring and back.2
- The most severe strains may require surgery.1
