Research Notes on Multiple Sclerosis Types
There are four types of multiple sclerosis: relapsing-remitting, primary-progressive, secondary-progressive, and progressive-relapsing. Relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis occurs when the disease goes in and out of relapse. Primary-progressive multiple sclerosis occurs when the disease causes a decline in function without remission. Secondary-progressive multiple sclerosis occurs when there are periods of relapsing-remitting followed by primary-progressive. Progressive-relapsing multiple sclerosis occurs when the disease gets progressively worse with episodes of acute attacks.1
