Research Notes on Sly Syndrome


Sly Syndrome is a mucopolysaccharide disease also known respectively as Mucopolysaccharidosis Type VII or MPS VII.1 The disorder is named after Dr. William Sly who originally described the condition in 1972.1 Sly Syndrome interferes with the successful building of connective tissues in the body.1

Fast Facts:

  • Sly Sndrome is extremely rare, and few cases have been described.2
  • Mental retardation, skeletal deformities, short stature and coarse facial features are common.3
  • Enzyme replacement therapy holds promise in treating the physical problems of the disease.4
