Research Notes on Morphine Uses
Morphine is most commonly prescribed to treat moderate to severe pain associated with myocardial infarction, trauma, sickle-cell disease, surgical procedures, back pain, kidney stones, and certain cancers. It may also be used to treat severe coughing, dyspnea, and chronic diarrhea in patients with AIDS.1 Morphine is sold under several brand names such as Roxanol, Avinza, and Oramorph SR.2
