Research Notes on Mitoxantrone Side Effects
As with any medication, there is a chance of experiencing side effects when using mitoxantrone. Side effects may include nausea, vomiting, decreased appetite, loss of menstrual periods, mouth sores, fatigue, blue-green colored urine, a bluish color to the whites of the eyes for a few days after each dose, headache, or hair lossare possible side effects. Contact your doctor immediately if you experience potentially serious side effects such as chest pain, breathing problems, increased cough, water retention, irregular heartbeats, fever, chills, sore throat, painful urination, bleeding, easy bruising, and black, bloody, or tarry stools.1

- Seek medical attention if you experience symptoms of an allergic reaction such as rash, hives, itching, difficulty breathing, tightness in the chest, swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue.2
- Mitoxantrone is used to treat prostate cancer, acute nonlymphocytic leukemia, and multiple sclerosis.
- Mitoxantrone is also sold under the brand name Novantrone.
