Minimally invasive heart surgery is a procedure to fix the valves, veins, and arteries of the heart, without performing major surgery.1 It is also called limited access heart surgery.1 It is being considered an acceptable alternative to bypass graft surgery.1

- The incision for this type of surgery is only two to four inches.2
- Benefits include a smaller incision and as a result, a smaller scar.2
- There is also less pain and trauma, and decreased recovery time.2
