Research Notes on Middle Insomnia
Middle insomnia -- also called sleep-maintenance insomnia -- is a sleeping disorder that is characterized by waking up in the middle of the night and being unable to go back to sleep. Depression, restless legs syndrome, and sleep apnea can all cause sleep-maintenance insomnia.1 A person can also wake frequently during the night due to a need to urinate.2 Treatment of the underlying disorder is the main key to managing middle insomnia.3
