Research Notes on Michael Jackson and Demerol
Associates close to fallen pop star Michael Jackson have repeatedly asserted that the star was addicted to pain killers such as Demerol and Oxycontin. It is believed that Jackson developed an addiction to Demerol after suffering second degree burns when his hair caught fire during the filming of a Pepsi commercial in 1984. It has been rumored that Michael Jackson was given a Demerol injection shortly before his death.1
Fast Facts:
- The Jackson family recently spoke regarding their concern regarding the private physician who was believed to be at Jackson's side at the time of his death; however, the police have stated he is not suspect.2
- The original autopsy did not reveal that Jackson died of an overdose, but toxicology results will not be available for several weeks.3
- The family has requested a second, private autopsy.3
