Research Notes on Metered Dose Inhalers

A metered-dose inhaler (MDI) is a two part medicinal unit which includes a metal canister and plastic mouthpiece. The metal canister contains a pressurized mist of medicine in a measured amount. Currently chlorofluorocarbons (CFC) is used but CFC will no longer be used after December 31, 2008. MDI is a primary means of delivering medication without taking a pill for asthma, chronic bronchitis, COPD, emphysema, and other respiratory conditions. MDI's are used for both quick relief and prevention in for all ages.
