Research Notes on Mental Health Assessment

A mental health assessment is performed to evaluate your state of mind, and the level of your decision making ability.. It is also used to evaluate patients who are thought to be depressed, schizophrenic, or suffering from another mental illness. There are many reasons why a person may be given a mental health assessment test.1

Fast Facts:

  • There are places online where you can do your own mental health assessment. They are for fun, or to help you realize you need to go to the doctor, however they are not a self diagnosis.2
  • Mental Health America is an excellent resource if you just don't know where to turn for help.3
  • The World Health Organization has issued a large guide for dealing with displaced populations and the mental health issues which come as a result. For instance, genocide survivors, natural disaster survivors. Helping others is more than just giving them some food and water.4
