Research Notes on Menopause
Menopause, often called the "change of life", happens when a woman's ovaries stop producing the hormones estrogen and progesterone. This occurs naturally, usually after age 45. Changes may start several years earlier, depending on the stage of menopause reached.1
Fast Facts:
- Symptoms of menopause include a change in periods, hot flashes, trouble sleeping, vaginal dryness, mood swings and trouble focusing.2
- Most women do not need formal treatment for menopause.3
- Some studies have suggested a diet high in soy can help reduce hot flashes.4
