Approximately 5.7 million Americans have been diagnosed with manic depression.1 Academy Award winning actor Mel Gibson admitted to having manic depression in a 2002 documentary.2 Gibson says that he experienced, "really good highs but some very low lows."2 He has rarely spoken about being manic depressive and any effects it may have had on his behavior.3
