Research Notes on Medications for Migraine Prevention
If you suffer from migraines on a regular basis, you may want to consider medications used to prevent a migraine. These medicines include propranolol, timolol, topiramate and divalproex sodium. There may be others available, however they are not all FDA approved for migraine prevention.1
Fast Facts:
- Preventative medicines work best for those that have migraine headaches at least twice monthly or for those that the headache lasts more than one day.2
- Preventative medications are often taken on a daily basis.3
- Preventive medications do not always work for everyone and do not always totally eliminate the pain.3
