Mariette Hartley

Mariette Hartley is an American actress. She has starred in five tv series, many tv movies, and over a dozen films. Her grandfather was renowned psychologist John B. Watson who avocated rearing children with little affection or nurturing. She suffered as young teenager with social anxiety, and began drinking at the young age of 14. In 1994 she had a suicidal episode and was subsequently diagnosed with severe depression. When medications were not effective she was later diagnosed with bipolar disorder. In part, due to her father dying of suicide as well as her mother attempting suicide, Mariette Hartley co-founded the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. In 2003, the pharmaceutical company GlaxoSmithKline, maker of Lamictal hired her as a spokesperson for bipolar disorder treatment.
