Research Notes on Marburg Disease

Marburg disease is highly contagious and very rare, often ending in death. Symptoms start off as flu-like and then sudden bleeding. Because a lot of the signs and symptoms of Marburg haemorrhagic fever are so similar to other infectious diseases, such as malaria or typhoid, this disease can be hard to diagnosis, especially if only a single case is involved.

Fast Facts:

  • - This disease was discovered in 1967 in a small German town from people working with monkeys that were not vaccinated
  • The disease is spread through bodily fluids, including blood, excrement, saliva, and vomiting
  • There is no specific antiviral therapy indicated for treating Marburg
