Mammoplasty is a common cosmetic surgery procedure to change the size or shape of the breasts. There several different types of mammoplasty: surgery to increase the size of the breast (breast augmentation), surgery to reduce the size (breast reduction), and surgery to correct the shape of the breast (breast reconstruction or breast lift).
Fast Facts:
- Breast augmentation is done to enlarge the breasts using a saline or silicone implant.1
- Breast reduction is performed for large, heavy breasts that may be causing pain or discomfort.1
- Breast reconstruction is generally performed following a mastectomy.1
- A breast lift can be done after pregnancy or weight loss.2
