Major depressive disorder, also known as severe clinical depression, is defined by the presence of five or more symptoms of depression lasting for a period of at least two weeks. Behavioral and lifestyle changes can help with depression, in addition to other treatments. Eating healthy, exercising, and getting enough sleep can help to improve your mood. Entering a support group and spending time talking with family and friends can also greatly assist your treatment plan.1
