Research Notes on How to Cut Cholesterol
The simplest way to cut cholesterol is to make healthier lifestyle choices. These choices can include a healthier diet or more exercise. Monitoring your diet can help you regulate the amount of cholesterol you put into your body. In addition, exercise burns fat, and as you lose weight your cholesterol lowers. Medication may be prescribed to help lower cholesterol.1
Fast Facts:
- There are two types of cholesterol: low-density lipoprotein (LDL) and high-density lipoprotein (HDL).2
- LDL is considered to be the "bad," or unhealthy cholesterol; keep that in mind when monitoring your cholesterol intake.2
- Foods that can help lower your LDL are fiber-rich foods such as oatmeal, kidney beans, and apples.2
- Walnuts can help lower LDL in the blood.2
