Research Notes on Low Tension Glaucoma


Low-tension glaucoma is due optic nerve atrophy and excavation with typical field defects of glaucoma, but without abnormal increase in intraocular pressure.1 It is a type of glaucoma that develops even when there is no increase in eye pressure. Many experts say that people who develop this condition have unusually sensitive optic nerves.2

  • In United States, up to 15-25% of patients with POAG experience LTG.2
  • It is more common in females and among the Japanese.2
  • The average age of patients with LTG is 60 years.2
