Research Notes on Low Fat Apple Recipes
Apple recipes that are low in fat don't have to be low on taste. Physicians commonly recommend a low fat diet to patients who are seeking to lose weight, maintain a healthy heart, and/or lower cholesterol. A moderate exercise program is also important in order to obtain and maintain optimum health.1 OrganizedWisdom has created a list of sites that offer low fat apple recipes.
Fast Facts:
- Apples are high in pectin, a soluble fiber that helps reduce cholesterol (thus helping protect against heart disease) and helps control blood sugar (which helps protect against type 2 diabetes).2
- The American Heart Association recommends a diet filled with fresh fruits, such as apples, and vegetables combined with mostly low fat foods.3
- If a low fat diet is followed over a number of years, women may be at a lowered risk of ovarian cancer.4
- Doctors may recommend that breast cancer patients eat a low fat diet in an effort to prevent relapse.5
