Lorazepam (Ativan) is labeled as a pregnancy category D drug by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. This medication is typically not recommended during pregnancy, especially the first trimester, due to the risk of fetal damage. Lorazepam is used in the treatment of anxiety disorders, depression, insomnia, panic attacks, and alcohol withdrawal.1
