Research Notes on Lorazepam Withdrawal
Lorazepam should be discontinued through a slow weaning process.1 Muscle cramps, vomiting, abdominal cramps, and convulsions are a few symptoms of withdrawing after long-term use.2 Withdrawing after short-term use may cause insomnia and dysphoria.2
Fast Facts:
- Lorazepam - sold under the brand name Ativan -- belongs to a group of drugs called benzodiazepines.
- It is used to treat depression and anxiety.3
- Switching to diazepam (Valium) while discontinuing lorazepam may minimize withdrawal symptoms.1
- Patients frequently have questions regarding antidepressants. OrganizedWisdom has psychiatrists addressing the most common concerns about taking these drugs.
