Research Notes on Lipitor and Pregnancy
Lipitor should not be used during pregnancy or in women who are considering becoming pregnant. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has listed Lipitor as a category X medication. Medications in this category are known to cause birth defects in babies exposed to the drug during pregnancy.1
Fast Facts:
- Consult with a physician immediately should you become pregnant while using Lipitor.2
- Women of childbearing age should be cautioned to use an effective form of birth control while undergoing Lipitor therapy.2
- Lipitor is a brand name of the generic medication atorvastatin which is sometimes recommended in the treatment of high cholesterol.2
