Research Notes on Phototherapy and Depression
Phototherapy is sometimes used to treat depression. This treatment involves sitting in front of a light box each day for 15 to 90 minutes.1 To be effective, a person needs to be close enough to the light box to receive 10,000 lux of light.2

- Light therapy was originally used to treat seasonal affective disorder.1
- Is can also be effective to relieve depression during pregnancy.3
- Phototherapy is best if done first thing in the morning.2
