Research Notes on Leukemia and Lymphoma
Leukemia and lymphoma are types of cancers. Leukemia is cancer of the blood or bone marrow.1 Lymphomas are cancers that develop in the immune system.2 These cancers are considered to be related because they involve the uncontrolled growth of cells with similar functions and origins.3
Fast Facts:
- Four general types of leukemia are: acute myelogenous leukemia (AML), acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL), chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML), and chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL).
- Lymphomas are classed into two major categories: Hodgkin lymphoma (or Hodgkin disease) and all other lymphomas, called non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL).
- Acute lymphoblastic leukemia is the most common childhood cancer.4
