Research Notes on Laryngopharyngeal Reflux Disease
Laryngopharyngeal reflux is the retrograde movement of the acidic contents of the stomach up the oesophagus to the larynx where it causes such symptoms as hoarseness, postnasal drip, sore throat, difficulty swallowing and chronic coughing and throat clearing. Other side-effects include a bitter taste in the mouth, especially in the morning, asthma, earache and difficulty singing high notes.
