Research Notes on Lack of Health Insurance Endangers Children
According to research from the Johns Hopkins Children's Center, the lack of health insurance may have contributed to approximately 17,000 deaths in hospitalized children. When comparing death rates, researchers found that uninsured children were 60% more likely to die in the hospital than those with insurance. According to the Hopkins researchers, the study, published Oct. 30 in the Journal of Public Health, is one of the largest ever to look at the impact of insurance on the number of preventable deaths and the potential for saved lives among sick children in the United States.1
