LDL and HDL Cholesterol

Research Notes on LDL and HDL Cholesterol

Lipoproteins are substances that transport cholesterol to different parts of the body. Low-density lipoproteins (LDL) carry cholesterol and triglycerides from the liver to tissues throughout the body, while high-density lipoproteins (HDL) pick up excess cholesterol and fatty acids from the body's tissues and carry them to the liver. Based on their functions, LDL and HDL are also called 'bad' cholesterol and 'good' cholesterol, respectively.
