Research Notes on Knee Surgery for Ganglion Cyst
The biggest ganglion cysts form in the back of the knee and are called Baker cysts (popliteal cysts). Often, treatment is not required as the cyst goes away on its own. When the cyst becomes bothersome, doctors may suggest any of the following treatments: physical therapy, fluid drainage or medications. An involvement of a cartilage which causes excessive synovial fluid production would warrant surgical removal of the cyst. Surgery is not usually performed as it may result to damage to nerves and blood vessels.
