Research Notes on Klonopin for Multiple Sclerosis
Klonopin is a benzodiazepine medication that is sometimes prescribed to multiple sclerosis (MS) patients in order to treat tremors, pain, and muscle spasticity. Side effects associated with Klonopin include dizziness, blurred vision, sexual dysfunction, constipation, diarrhea, and dry mouth. Klonopin is not approved by the FDA in the treatment of MS; however, some physicians prescribe the medication off-label due to its beneficial effects to many MS patients.1

- Klonopin is a brand name of the generic medication clonazepam.
- MS is the most commonly diagnosed neurological condition in young adults.2
- MS is an autoimmune disease in which the body mistakenly attacks and destroys the protective covering on nerves.2
